Fellow Boulderite, Arborescent, asked: “Where do you get your ideas for these posts? I want to do something like this but I run out of ideas quickly.”
These posts come from one of two places:
1.) At completely random times throughout the day, often while driving, I come up with the concept for a post. The idea usually manifests itself as a a blog title. I write it down before it leaves my brain.
2.) I’ll have a post planned, but the events of the day necessitate an alternate post. Recently, Christian Bale visited Aurora. I had a post planned for that day but pushed it back, as this was an awesome event to highlight.
Regardless of where the ideas comes from, I use Evernote to keep them all compiled. Evernote is awesome, as writing my post ideas in my iPad means that when I open my iPhone or laptop, they’re there, too. Whatever device I have nearby contains my current list. It feels like the future.
Some days I’ll write down five blog ideas. Other days, nothing. Currently, my list has ~100 concepts to choose from. I try to add to it everyday.
The key is to capture conceptual / philosophical ideas quickly, as they tend to be fleeting.
