When I first saw this photo, I was surprised at the quality of the image. I assumed it was a press event, which would make this a surprisingly low-res press photo.
Turns out that the media wasn’t invited. This is a photo taken with a phone and posted by Carey Rottman, who was shot in the leg in the Aurora theatre shooting.
Christian Bale could have kept his distance. He could have publicly ignored the entire disaster and nobody would have faulted him for it. He didn’t have to engage and travel to Colorado and meet the people who survived.
This was an incredible gesture. The fact that the visit happened under the radar and on a purely human to human level, is awesome.
Nicely done, Christian Bale. This was the right thing to do.
